Brave. Kind. Try Again.

Sometimes trying something new feels hard. And sometimes, even when kids are brave enough to try, things don't work the first time.

That's where Brave, Kind, Try Again comes in.

This simple activity gives kids ages 4–8 three things to practice:

💜 Be brave enough to try.
💛 Be kind to yourself when it doesn't work.
❤️ Be ready to try again.

With the free Hero Chart and the Xyla and Xenya song “Brave, Kind, Try Again,” kids can point, sing, move, and practice the words together.

At home, in the classroom, during morning meeting, or as part of a homeschool day, all you need is the chart and the song to get started.

How the Brave, Kind, Try Again Activity Works

The activity is simple. Grab your Hero Chart, turn on “Brave, Kind, Try Again,” and let your child follow along.

💜 BRAVE

When you hear Brave, point to Brave on the Hero Chart.

Ask:

“What is something you can be brave enough to try?”

It could be something new, something that feels hard, or one small step they are ready to take.

💛 KIND

Next comes Kind.

Point to Kind and ask:

“If it doesn't work the first time, what can you say to yourself?”

This is the reminder that being kind isn't only about how we treat other people. We can be kind to ourselves, too.

❤️ TRY AGAIN

When you reach Try Again, point to the final part of the chart.

Ask:

“Are you ready to give it one more try?”

They don't have to get everything right. They can take one small step at a time.

That's it.

Listen. Point. Talk. Try.

Use the activity whenever your child is getting ready to try something new, working through something difficult, or simply needs a reminder:

Brave enough to try. Kind to yourself when it doesn't work. Ready to try again.

Ways to Use Brave, Kind, Try Again

There isn't just one way to use the Hero Chart and song. Bring them out whenever a little Brave, Kind, Try Again might fit the moment.

🏠 At Home

Try it before something your child is nervous about, after something didn't go as planned, or simply as a fun activity together.

Put on the song, grab the Hero Chart, and join in.

You can even ask:

“What's your brave thing today?”

It might be trying a new food, sleeping in their own bed, joining a new activity, making a new friend, or giving something another try.

🍎 During Morning Meeting

Teachers can turn Brave, Kind, Try Again into a quick morning meeting activity.

Play the song and let students point, sing, or move along. Then choose one simple question for the class:

“What is something you can be brave enough to try today?”

“What does being kind to yourself look like?”

“What is something you could try again?”

No worksheets or complicated lesson plan needed.

📚 In a Homeschool Day

Use the Hero Chart and song as a quick movement break, conversation starter, or transition between activities.

Afterward, invite your child to choose their Brave, Kind, or Try Again moment for the day.

💜 Before a Brave Moment

Sometimes the activity doesn't need to be planned at all.

A first day of school.
A dentist appointment.
A new activity.
Meeting someone new.
Trying again after something didn't work.

Put on the song, point to the chart, and remind them:

One small step at a time.
